Jenny's Story
In 1988,Jenny traveled to Beijing from her hometown of Ming Gao in Henan Province to sell fruit and vegetables from a simple roadside stall. Jenny has always treated her customers with great respect and equality, which in today's world, is a rare quality as we all know.
In 1994,Jenny opened her first shop in the old Sanlitun area of Beijing. Jenny named the store "Jenny Lou's"; the "Jenny" given phonetically for Jenny's Chinese name," Jiaying", while the "Lou" was her brother-in law's surname. It is important to mention that the stores in the inner city of Beijing are completely separate businesses from the Lido and Shunyi shops that are owned by Jenny.
In May of 2000,Jenny traveled overseas for the very first time to an International Food Convention in Chicago. She took hundreds of photographs of products that she deemed would be of great interest and benefit to her customers at home in Beijing. What a brilliant way to do market research!
Many people are concerned about fresh produce when they first arrive here in Beijing, as they tend to buy canned or frozen foods to "play it safe". Jenny would like to make it a point to recognize that every last item of produce sold in her shops is strictly organic, and she even welcomes everybody to visit her greenhouses.
Although there is a lot of competition within the supermarkets in Beijing, Jenny has succeeded through her hard work and long hours to make this grocery store the top choice of western supermarkets in Beijing. In addition to looking after her customer's every need, Jenny also looks after her staff members. An entire 98% of Jenny's staff members have been brought up to Beijing for a better life from her hometown village in Henan province. Jenny provides jobs, housing and hygiene facilities, along with food and other care items for every one of her employees.
Jenny's phenomenal quality of generosity shines through in ways more than simply aiding her own staff members. Jenny donates annually to many local and international causes recently including hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
